Winter 2012 has been very cold and wet. Despite this all the pruning is finished and we’re ready for the start of a new cycle.

We participated in Taste of the Tamar in Hobart in July, and hope that you were able to attend. All going well, the event will be on at The Long Gallery, Salamanca Arts Centre, Hobart 20 & 21 July 2013.

It’s a great opportunity to try a large number of wines from all over the Tamar Valley so mark it in your diaries!
We took part in Tasmania Unbottled 2012 this year and the events in all the cities (Sydney, Melbourne & Brisbane) were well attended. We hope you were able to attend a try our wines.

Meanwhile, back at Bay of Fires winery… we have been looking at the 2012 Merlot, Malbec and Cab Franc in barrel, and without doubt a blend of these varieties is a sensational wine. The Malbec is giving the blend immediate fruit sweetness and intriguing appeal. We are working on an appropriate name for a late 2013 release … watch this space!

We’d like to announce that our 2010 Pinot Gris will be released in October.
Tasting Notes:
Deep straw yellow in colour, this wine is showing aromas of ripe stone fruit with some banana and baking spice lift. On the palate the wine shows rich ripe fruit with some quince astringency and dry savoury yeast notes to close long and aromatic.

A complex, full bodied, dry white wine.

For the first time, this year we will be taking part in the “Bloomin Tulips Festival” in Wynyard on Saturday 13th October.

Another first for us… our garden will open as part of Open Gardens Australia on the weekend of 27 & 28 October (also as part of Artentwine). West Tamar Rotary will be helping us manage traffic and parking and will receive our share of the gate takings. They will also be having a barbecue so you’re welcome to bring a picnic rug and enjoy! Wine tastings will be available, and you can purchase wine by the glass as well as by the bottle.
