Byzantine is a style of art and architecture derived from the Eastern Roman Empire, that survived the fall of Rome when the capitol was moved to Byzantium (then renamed Constantinople, now Istanbul).

Our “Byzantine” wine is a blend of Chardonnay, Viognier and Malvasia.

Malvasia, the vine variety, is the Italian name for Monemvasia, the ancient port city in southern Greece on the Mediterranean coast. During the Byzantine empire, Malvasia vines were spread all around the Mediterranean so that now, any country that has a border on the Mediterranean, will have Malvasia grapes growing there.
